The Tunbridge Wells Counselling Centre

Location

Tunbridge Wells

The Tunbridge Wells Counselling Centre has provided accessible mental health support across West Kent for over 35 years. As the only BACP-accredited counselling service in the region, they are now extending their impact through a new partnership with YMCA Ryder House to support young people aged 16–25, many of whom are ‘looked-after,’ homeless, or at risk of homelessness.

Our funding supports free one-to-one counselling for residents facing significant mental health challenges. These young people often arrive at Ryder House following breakdowns in family relationships, trauma, or instability. These are all factors compounded by poverty, food insecurity, and social isolation.

Without timely support, such issues can prevent progress in education, employment, and personal development. NHS mental health services are overstretched, and the wait time for under-18s in the area can exceed 18 weeks. The Counselling Centre, located just a short walk from the residence, is uniquely placed to offer faster, more consistent support for these young people in need.

As a charity our mission is to make counselling more accessible to more people by reducing the financial barriers involved.
