This project, The ONE DJ Academy, is a specialist creative education programme for LGBTQ+ young people, delivered from the organisation’s dedicated community hub, the ONE Centre. The programme provides structured sessions in DJing, music production, and audio skills. The Academy helps open pathways into further education, training, and employment within the creative industries. Public showcases and recordings provide opportunities to celebrate achievement.
Alongside technical training, the project places strong emphasis on confidence building, emotional wellbeing, and peer connection. Many of the young people taking part are isolated, marginalised, or affected by abuse or discrimination. Others have limited access to inclusive services or visible role models in more rural or dispersed communities. The Academy is designed to remove those barriers by offering a safe, welcoming environment where participants can learn new skills while being accepted for who they are.
Mainstream youth and creative services are often not explicitly inclusive, leaving some young people feeling unsafe, misunderstood, or invisible.
